A drastic transformation of a traditional play environment that increases sensory experiences, play opportunities and social collaboration.

Overview

At St. Elizabeth Seton Catholic Elementary School, an older plastic play structure was removed to make way for a lush natural setting. A new outdoor amphitheatre offers a gathering space for students. The natural log climber perched in a hill provides a vantage point to view the entire play space, along with abundant climbing activities for the kids. In addition to the new play elements, complimenting the few existing locust trees are a diverse host of native trees and shrubs offering shade, sensory activities for the students, and a direct connection to the natural world.
