Lecture/Discussion and Group Activities

Promoting Literacy Outdoors

Lecture/Discussion and Group Activities

In this workshop we will compare, assess, and promote ways to improve on literacy skills in any outdoor space.

Workshop Summary

In this webinar, we will step outside the standards of reading and writing and explore how outdoor unstructured free play supports motor, creative, social, and language skills needed to assist in the foundations of literacy for young children. We will take you on a journey to understand how a well-planned and sensory rich outdoor environment naturally provides these activities and experiences to support the physical prerequisites needed for literacy. We will provide educators with a new lens to understand that the foundations of literacy start with the body where children can practise and develop their motor skills, ability to attend, persevere, and problem solve; all skills important for reading and writing.
